A yearlong investigation into the events of a 24-hour period during which I was dumped by my girlfriend, had an uncanny experience involving a raccoon t-shirt, saw a large wildfire, and witnessed a fleeing parolee who had been shot in the face by undercover police officers. The picture at left shows me at 10 years old; I mentioned this photograph to her the night we broke up. The picture at right shows the old man I saw the following morning, as I attempted to go surfing for the first time.
